Pinxterbloom farm is nestled in the gently rolling hills of the Pennsylvania piedmont. The name of the farm is taken from the native azalea which grows naturally on the property, pinxterbloom azalea. The 20 acre farm is partially wooded, which serves as home to the pinxterbloom azalea, with 10 acres of pasture, which serves a home to our flock of angora goats. Located in the southeastern corner of Pennsylvania, it is near the Delaware state line only a few minutes from interstate 95. Our farm developed out of my wife's obsession with textiles and my love of raising animals. After considering many possible alternatives, we decided to raise angora goats because of there gentle disposition, ease of care and delightful fiber that is both fine lustrous.
We began with six goats from Peavine Hollow Farm, with Phoenix, a dense, fine haired buck, which won grand champion at VAGMA in 2001, as our herd sire. A trip to Texas resulted in the addition of stock from Dr. Fred Speck. We purchased a long bodied, fine textured buck, Mesquite, who won first place yearling buck at New Jersey Sheep and Wool Festival, and three does. Three breeding seasons later our flock has grown to 35 goats that serve as a wonderful escape from the stress and grind of day to day life. They are an endless source of relief and amusement and have produced wonderful hair and kids.
You can visit us at Great Lakes Fiber Show (last weekend in May in Wooster, Ohio), Virginia Angora Goat and Mohair Association Show (third weekend in June, Lewisburg, WV), New Jersey Harvest Sheep and Fiber Festival (last weekend in September, Sharptown, NJ), New York State Sheep and Wool Festival (third weekend in October, Rhinebeck, NY) and we hope to add Southeastern Animal Fiber Fair (last weekend in October, Asheville, NC). We would also encourage you to visit and enjoy the setting and animals. We are always excited to share our experiences and talk about our animals.
